Earlier this year my wife’s dad passed away. She’s been helping her stepmom deal with all the financial loose ends that he left behind, some of which required the counsel of an attorney.  We found an attorney in Fort Lauderdale. At one point, an incident occurred where the attorney did not do what he said he would do and my wife proceeded to contact the office. At one point the phone was passed to the senior partner who did everything short of cussing my wife out. She ended up in tears.

Obviously, we now have left that attorney. But, today, we got a laugh when we received a nice holiday card in the mail from the abusive attorney’s office which said:

Peace on Earth

Like my 8 year old is fond of saying, “Yeah, right.”

A recent post by Brian Clark entitled The Inigo Montoya Guide to 27 Commonly Misused Words caught my attention and not just because I am a fan of the Princess Bride.

My mom is a stickler for good grammar; something I didn’t appreciate growing up but for which I am now thankful. A pop song is forever ruined for me when I hear the commonly misused phrase “for you and I” (correct grammar is “for you and me”). One of her favorites was the phrase “centered around” which is redundant and should correctly be “centered on”.

It thought the copyblogger article was helpful and a good refresher. Does anyone out there have any favorite grammatical blunders to share?
